Organized Meals for Times of Uprisings is a nomadic assembly initiated by Arts of the Working Class in collaboration with Osservatorio Futura (Turin) and Terzospazio (Venice). Each iteration opens with a shared meal that extends and deepens conversation around pressing social and cultural questions. The table becomes a space where community is strengthened, literally and metaphorically, in solidarity with those who struggle and resist.
As part of the Project Space Festival, we invite all art and cultural workers active in the city to join us for the assembly and food at our Berlin office. The conversation will be facilitated by artist and theorist Filipe Lippe together with local collectives. The discussion will center on the reproduction of precarious working conditions in the art world and on proposals to reorganize for the long term through collective praxis. As a case study, a Berlin-based collective will share its work of counter-organizing against the weaponization of state funding in Germany.
The assembly will be in dialogue with Filipe Lippe’s exhibition Everything That Exists Was Once Impossible, on display at the office. Lippe’s visual inquiry operates within the fractured temporality, where progress and catastrophe unfold in a dialectics — an accumulation of ruins that systematically fuels material (under)development and buries anti-capitalist alternatives, indigenous cosmic orderings, ancestral ways of life and the possibility of constituting a future beyond its imminent eclipse. Within this framework of negative expectations, the exhibition functions as an aesthetic entry point into this crisis of futurity, and its mechanism exposes how the unresolved specters of yesterday are already preauthoring our impending tomorrow.
If we have reached a point of no return, it would then be a matter of “organizing pessimism” — as Benjamin would say — to invent other codes, languages, and significations capable of corrupting institutionalized representative markers, pointing toward presence and action.
