- Update: The opportunity to inhabit the space with us is directed towards Berlin locals! -
Arts of the Working Class (AWC) is thrilled to announce the opening of its new space in Berlin-Neukölln (NK) at Schillerpromenade 10. It is dedicated to supporting artists who are on low-income, who have been defunded, and/or come from a migration background, as well as writers and publishers in need of short-term to mid-term workspace. Our goal is to foster a welcoming community where collective work, culture, and artistic practices can thrive in an environment that values respect, plurality, and equality. We have been able to move in thanks to the generous support of the Schöpflin Foundation.
About
The AWC space—including our headquarters, office, archive, and exhibition room—will serve as a hub for our vendors, contributors, partners, and the wider community. Regular exhibitions, workshops, and events will be organized in alignment with Arts of the Working Class's editorial work and in collaboration with the local community. These activities are designed to foster dialogue and exchange, enriching the collective cultural production.
Available Spaces
- Individual Room: Suitable for one person; available for up to six months (September 2024-February 2025 / March-August 2025).
- Collective Room: Accommodates up to five members; available for up to six months (September 2024-February 2025 or March-August 2025).
Facilities and Amenities
Each room is equipped with desks, lamps, and Wi-Fi. We provide wooden chairs and benches, but you are welcome to bring your own comfortable seating. The office is on the ground floor and fully wheelchair accessible. Two bathrooms and a small communal kitchen are also available. The space is offered free of charge under the principles of the commons: users are expected to care for the space and to contribute to the community's well-being. AWC retains overall responsibility for the space. While it is free to use, donations—whether in time, effort, or any currency—are encouraged to help to sustain the initiative.
